Summer is just around the corner, and we are all excited to go to beaches and pools to get away from the scorching heat. We look forward to this even more this year because we are going back to our pre-pandemic activities.
1. Apply sunscreen often
Highly recommended defense against sunburn and skin cancer. Effective sunscreens are those that offer at least SPF30, broad spectrum protection, lip protection and water resistance. Make sure to apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before you go out and reapply every 2 hours.
2. Keep moisturizing
Use a light moisturizer to maintain hydration without making you feel sticky and heavy. A moisturizer with SPF can provide an extra layer of protection.
3. Go lighter on the makeup and use those with SPF
Pare down your makeup routine to let your skin breathe and avoid skin clogging. Using tinted makeup with at least SPF 30 can provide added protection against UV rays.
4. Exfoliate once or twice a week
Exfoliation unclogs the pores and reduces blemishes. But never overdo it and best not to exfoliate if you’re sunburned.
5. Wear sun-protective accessories and clothing
Choose wide brimmed hats, UV-400 sunglasses and clothes with woven fabrics, UV absorbers, tightly woven fabrics like denim or loose, dark colors for best protection from the sun.
6. Wash your face – but not often
Rinse your face with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water in the morning, at night and after sweat sessions. Use blotting papers if you find yourself sweating to absorb the sweat from your face.
